As actors we’re always trying to figure out how we want to present ourselves in the industry. I can’t stress enough how important it is to know your brand! This does not mean your type. Type does fall into your brand, but it isn’t your brand. Each and every actor is a business. We start out as a small business and work towards becoming a big business. The goal is to get you to become a well-oiled machine and your headshot is the face of your business. This is your first impression. You must make it count! As actors we need to ask ourselves what we do, why we do it and how we do it. One must be extremely honest when answering these questions. It is not good enough to simply say we want to work. We wouldn’t be killing ourselves everyday if we didn’t, right?! So as you prepare to get new headshots, find out what your type is, what your age range is and what your range as an actor is. Are you a dramatic actor? Comedic? Maybe both? We need to capture all of those qualities that you possess—honest representations of each part of you. The more specific the better!

One of my past clients reached out to me wanting to update his legit headshots.  He had come up with an extremely clear sense of the roles he was being seen for, as well as the roles he knew he was right for; but he didn’t have the shots that demonstrated his ability to embody these roles—Detective, Lawyer, Doctor, Military. I don’t think we can turn on the TV very often without seeing a show or commercial that revolves around one of these roles. Knowing that, we needed to nail shots that featured these elements.
